The Ramblings of a Mad man

Welcome mighty adventures!

This blog post is not going to be about my games I am working on (that is for another post). This is going to be about a game I am playing.

Crusader Kings 2 is a Grand-Strategy Wargame published by Paradox Interactive. It takes place in the middle ages, and you play one of (literally) thousands of counts, dukes, kings, or emperors in the game. I am not going to go into too much detail about the game because while writing this I have realized that there is so much I could write about the game that it deserves it's own post. So, I may write that, and instead just finish this intro by saying that I really like this game (even though I haven't gotten to the end yet). So, what this blog post IS about is what just happened in my current game.

I am currently on my third character in the game. As long as you current character has a legitimate heir you get to keep playing the game (I believe it has to be a son or daughter but have never had a character die without a child yet so...not sure, will verify for the game review post). I also like playing the ironman mode (meaning there are no reverting back to a previous save if something bad happens) which is how the current situation surfaced.

When this character came into power, it was revealed (mainly because I had never bothered to check before) that he was a lunatic. And since I was wanting to really try and role-play the character's traits (the previous character had the lustful trait so he had alot of women and kids but for some reason was also very godly) I was not too happy at seeing that one word...Lunatic. But, since I couldn't change it, I buckled down and hoped I could still accomplish my main goal...uniting all of Ireland.

See, this is the breadth of my kingdom. I currently control about 60% of Ireland. That is enough for me to create the title of King of Ireland, but at the time I only had 100 of 400 gold needed. So I was going to try my best to save up the needed funds while maintaining a hold on my territories (plus it wouldn't hurt to strengthen my kingdom anyways.

Unfortunately, the game wasn't going to let this lunatic rest. Every time my wife or one of my concubines became pregnant, I would claim it wasn't mine. It would give me the options to investigate her, but I still wouldn't believe the results. Now that isn't to say that I threw all the kids out (surprisingly) but I did end up spending a lot of money trying to prove they weren't mine. So, right now I have two boys, one girl, and a fourth on the way. This poses a problem for me, well this and something else that has happened.

With two sons, and a third possible on the way, the titles I currently hold will be divided between them, according to the current laws. The territory on the left is one of the titles that the youngest would inherit. Unfortunately, earlier in the game I found out that I can't give away what amounts to a dukedom just yet. I believe this is because of the time period, we haven't adopted feudalism yet. But, if I had the title King of Ireland, that shouldn't be a problem. So, if my current character were to pass away, for some reason, my petty kingdom would be split up. And I would have to work to reclaim it. Fighting between brothers is never pretty, or beneficial for the younger brother (right John, hehehe).

Now we come to the main reason for this post. This lunatic character of mine has decided that his horse, Glitterhoof, would make an excellent chancellor. I was like..."Oh god no!" There is no better way to get yourself disposed then to start listening to animal for advise on matters of state. But, I had to roll with it. Then this happened...

So, now I am afraid that someone is going to hurt my precious Chancellor Glitterhoof. What is a lunatic to do? Why buy her the best armor available. What else? Needless to say, my kingdom is now 148 gold in debt. That is never good as bandits start rising since you don't have enough to pay the sheriff's. It is almost impossible to wage war, no money to pay the troops. Soooo...yeah.

Right now, I am hoping that things will settle down and I will still be able to create the title before disaster strikes (again). But things aren't looking good. I believe that my son isn't going to look back too fondly on his old man.

Thus ends my ramblings about the game. Hope you enjoyed it. And don't think that just cause I was complaining about what happened that I am not enjoying the game. I am. I wouldn't have chosen the first option if I wasn't having fun. I can't wait to see what happens next. And I will let you all know too. Unless you don't want me to. Let me know either way in the comments.

And as always...
